Denmark’s first national park — a wild strip of dune heath, pine plantation, and wind-blown Atlantic coast known as “Cold Hawaii.” Hike the North Sea Trail between the dunes, spot red deer, and watch the surf roll in.

Spring averages 5–12°C, summer 15–22°C, autumn 8–14°C, and winter −2 to 4°C in Thy. This summer trip hikes the wild North Sea coast under long daylight. Klitmøller surfers ride year-round but summer is warmest. Dune sections expose you to constant onshore wind.

Natural history
Thy protects Denmark's largest wilderness — dune heath, plantation forest, and North Sea coast. Red deer were reintroduced and thrive in the reserve. Bulbjerg is the only bird cliff in Denmark, hosting kittiwakes and guillemots.
Local food
Klitmøller cafés serve fish cakes and coffee to surfers between sessions. Thisted and Hanstholm harbour restaurants do fresh North Sea plaice. Pack trail lunches; villages are spaced along the coastal path.

Klitmøller is nicknamed Cold Hawaii — North Sea swells and offshore winds create surf conditions that rival Atlantic breaks, in Denmark of all places.
