Spring averages 8–14°C, summer 14–20°C, autumn 10–16°C, and winter 4–10°C in Connemara. This summer hike crosses bare quartzite peaks under long Atlantic daylight. Rain and mist arrive without warning on the Twelve Bens. Diamond Hill can be clear when the high peaks are socked in.

Connemara is Irish-speaking heartland where traditional music sessions fill Clifden pubs. Kylemore Abbey is a Benedictine monastery in a Victorian castle. The landscape inspired much of Ireland's literary identity.
Natural history
Connemara's blanket bog and quartzite peaks form one of Ireland's wildest landscapes. Killary fjord is a glacial inlet home to dolphins and salmon farms. The Twelve Bens massif rises directly from the bog with no foothills.

Clifden pubs serve Connemara lamb, seafood chowder, and Guinness after long bog walks. Kylemore Abbey tearoom does scones and soup with abbey views. Mitchell's Restaurant in Clifden is a local institution.
Fun fact
Killary fjord is Ireland's only true fjord — a glacial inlet 16 km long that divides County Galway from Mayo.
