Ilulissat Icefjord

Weather
Spring averages −8 to 2°C, summer 5–12°C, autumn −5 to 3°C, and winter −15 to −5°C in Ilulissat. Short winter days and coastal wind are standard on this itinerary. Disko Bay rarely freezes fully, so iceberg boat trips run most of the season. Dress for extreme cold on dog-sledding days; the icefjord boardwalk can be icy.

Natural history
The Ilulissat Icefjord drains 10% of the Greenland ice sheet through Sermeq Kujalleq glacier, one of the fastest-moving glaciers on Earth. Icebergs calve constantly into Disko Bay and can take years to melt in the North Atlantic. The site is UNESCO-listed for its scale and scientific importance to climate research.
